Jivitputrika or jitiya Jivitputrika or jitiya is a festival celebrated for the well being and prosperity of the children. Mothers fast and pray for the long life of their kids. This is mainly celebrated in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand & Uttar Pradesh. When and how to celebrate Jivitputrika/ jitiya This is a 3 days festival and starts from seventh lunar day of Krishna-Paksha in Ashvin month to ninth lunar day. Nahai khai – This is the preparatory day and as per the rituals – Mothers take bath in the morning and take food. Water                                                              300 ml
Cumin seeds                                                    1 tsp
Asafoetida                                                      ¼ tsp
Green Cardamom                                            4
Black Cardamom                                            2

Fennel Powder                                                2 tsp
Dry Ginger Powder                                        ½ tsp
Turmeric Powder                                            1 tsp
Salt                                                                  to taste
Ghee/refined oil                                              50 ml
Refined oil                                                      for frying
Fenugreek powder                                          ½ tsp
Cardamom powder                                         ½ tsp

Cut the Cottage cheese in cubes.

How to make Paneer Qaliya
Heat some oil in a pan and fry the cottage cheese.
Now heat 50 ml of ghee/oil in a kadhai and add the cumin seeds, clove, green cardamom, black cardamom and asafetida and let them crackle. Add water followed by turmeric powder, fennel powder, dry ginger powder & salt and bring it to boil.
Now add the fried pieces of cottage cheese and cook on high temperature till the mixture gets gravy consistency. Now add the milk and cook for another 5 minutes. Finish it with fenugreek powder and cardamom powder.
Serve hot with steamed rice or your choice of Indian bread.
