Jivitputrika or jitiya Jivitputrika or jitiya is a festival celebrated for the well being and prosperity of the children. Mothers fast and pray for the long life of their kids. This is mainly celebrated in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand & Uttar Pradesh. Nahai khai – This is the preparatory day and as per the rituals – Mothers take bath in the morning and take food. Tunday Kababi – From Lucknow to Delhi



Lucknow chowk, Gomti nagar (Lucknow), Indira puram, Dubai and now Delhi (Daryagunj). Yes, the century old kebab maestro has set up their outlet in the Capital. Though they had a franchise at New Friends Colony Market, but that is closed due to some reason. This time, The tunday kababi has come up with the complete team of their super skilled team of chefs and the huge stock of ingredients from Lucknow. This outlet is designed with dual purpose – Take away and the casual dinning. So they had the live kitchen in the front, the cashier in the center and then the sitting area.

This was the fourth day of this outlet that was almost full during the peak lunch time. While entering this restaurant, I stop for a couple of minutes at their live kitchen and I find the inverted tawa (for the ulte tawa ka parantha), The grill for the Roasted Chicken, The tawa and the mahi tawa for their shami kabab & the signature dish – Tunday kebab. Then they had two handies – for the Biryanies (Chicken and the Mutton). In the mean time I realized that I am obstructing some people while some of the customers were trying to surpass me to grab their parcel. So I thought to take a Table.

I moved on to the cashier – cum – Manager Desk. While going through the menu card, I asked if I need to take the coupons first. But, thankfully he offered me a table and a steward came to take my order. This steward was not in any uniform but he has all the tehzib of Lucknow and has all the skills of a professionally trained steward. I relished, the tundey kebab with the parantha and the chicken biryani with an unique raita, that was flavoured with kewra. This lunch was slightly more than my stomach size that too for Rs. 120 only.

While moving out, the manager Mr. Aman asked for my feedback and I appreciated their kabab and Biryani. When I mentioned that his raita has a good quantity of Kewra, he become conscious and when I revealed that I am a chef, he immediately called his head chef and introduced to me. We shared few words, he made me taste the Chicken Shami, although I was completely full but I could not resist his offer (Actually the chicken Shami). I appreciated their food, I thank them for opening their outlet in Delhi but I could not stop myself to d the drawbacks – The biryani has a mixture of 2 types of rice. 1 – the long grain- Biryani rice and 2- the small/ economical grain rice. The shami had slightly more of channa dal, But I give complete marks for their taste and Aroma – that is still coming out from my mouth when I am writing this blog.

The history of Tundey Kebab –

When the Nawab of Awadh grew old, He lost his tooth but he wanted to enjoy his favourate kababs. Then He commissioned his master chef – Haji Maraj Ali to research and create such kebabs that do not require chewing and that would virtually melts in mouth. The result was the kebab with digestive & aromatic spices, herbs and other ingredients mixed with minced mutton. As the master chef was one armed (tunda), The kababs become famous as TUNDAY KABABI. Now his grand son runs a restaurant that has become a chain by the same name – Tundey Kababi.

So, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the melt in mouth kebabs in Delhi as a very very reasonable price.
